Estimating Weeks to Months in Advanced Cancer Patients Using Multiple Prognostic Models

This calculator gives prognostic data based on published studies using the Objective Prognostic Score (OPS), Modified Objective Prognostic Scores (mOPS-A & B), Palliative Prognostic Score (PaP), Palliative Prognostic Score with Delirium (D-PaP), Palliative Prognostic Index (PPI), Performance Status-Based Palliative Prognostic Index (PS-PPI), and several Performance Status/Scales (KPS, PPS, and ECOG) in patients with advanced cancer.

Intended only for patients with a survival of six months or less. Data is most valid in the one to three month range.

Enter as many variables as possible and this prognostic calculator will provide survival data based on published studies.

How Long do You Think the Patient Will Live? PaP, D-PaP
Palliative Performance Scale (PPS) Help? PPS, PPI
Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) Help? KPS, PaP, D-PaP
ECOG Performance Status Help? ECOG, PS-PPI, OPS, mOPS-A/B
Edema PPI, PS-PPI, mOPS-A/B
Oral Intake PPI, PS-PPI, OPS, mOPS-A/B
Dyspnea at Rest PPI, PS-PPI, PaP, D-PaP, OPS, mOPS-A/B
Delirium1 PPI, PS-PPI, D-PaP
Drowsiness2 mOPS-B

Total WBC (cell/cc) PaP, D-PaP, OPS, mOPS-A

Creatinine4 OPS
Total Bilirubin OPS, mOPS-A
LDH OPS, mOPS-A

Notes:
  1. In the PPI and PS-PPI, delirium is counted as absent if it is due to a single medication. The D-PaP study does not make the distinction, hence the three options.
  2. For mOPS-B, drowsiness was scored using the Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale (IPOS), by asking patients the severity of drowsiness they experienced in the past week. Unconscious patients were excluded.
  3. This is the clinical symptom of anorexia (ie, lack of appetite), not to be confused with cachexia or the psychiatric diagnosis.
  4. The OPS studies excluded patients with renal failure.
